Target

The Inter-Institutional Master's Program of the Department of Chemistry of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Department of Crop Science of the Agricultural University of Athens, entitled "Viticulture-Oenology and Alcoholic Beverages", is designed to enhance students’ knowledge in topics related to the wine production sector, with the aim of providing the necessary training for their scientific and professional development.

The timeless presence of the vine and its products in Greece and the occupation of Greeks with viticulture and wine production from ancient times to the present day reveals the huge contribution of the sector to economic, social and cultural development. The wine producing industry as well as the beer and spirits industries, in all stages of production and bottling processes, maintain a dominant position in the chemical industry of the country and play an important role in the national economy.

Taking into account the ever-increasing market demands for professionals who combine both technical (viticulture and oenology) and business skills, the curriculum of the Graduate Program  "Viticulture-Oenology and Spirits” is designed to provide the wine sector with graduates who have acquired specialized knowledge.

The curriculum was designed in accordance with the requirements of the new regulation passed by the International Office of Vine and Wine (Training programs for oenologists-Resolution OIV- ECO 563-2016). The Program graduates have the formal and substantive qualifications provided by the Law 1697/1987 (Government Gazette A' 57), for those practicing the profession of Oenologist.
